The transition from processing third-party material to becoming a fully integrated producer can be a decisive lever for significant margin and value growth. Nicola Mining (NASDAQ: NICM; TSX.V: NIM; FSE: HLIA) is now on the verge of this milestone. The company, which has already proven its production capabilities through partner projects, is making final preparations to begin extracting high-grade gold- and silver-bearing material at its Dominion Gold Project in British Columbia in the first week of July. This in-house ore is to be processed directly at the company’s Merritt Mill—a strategic milestone that takes the profitability of the company’s own infrastructure to a new level.

Merritt Mill: Centerpiece of the Integrated Model

The Merritt Mill is the centerpiece of Nicola’s business model. It is the only fully permitted processing facility in all of British Columbia authorized to process gold and silver material from across the province. While Nicola has successfully utilized these capacities in collaboration with partners to date, the integration with its own Dominion Project creates a closed, highly profitable value chain. The Dominion project itself is located 43 kilometres northeast of the town of Wells and approximately 110 kilometres southeast of Prince George. With the start of in-house ore extraction, the typical transportation and third-party fees associated with this high-grade resource are eliminated, which significantly strengthens the overall operation’s profitability.

Infrastructure, Fleet, and Regulatory Readiness

To ensure the planned production start in July is logistically and regulatory sound, Nicola Mining has finalized the necessary infrastructure in recent weeks. This includes the final payment for a fully equipped camp for 14 people directly on-site. The machinery fleet was also specifically upgraded: The company acquired three Caterpillar 336-07 excavators, a Traxxon TR-EX2000 High Performance Rock Drill attachment, and a John Deere 310E haul truck. At the same time, Nicola strengthened its regulatory foundation with an additional payment of CAD 251,000 to meet the reclamation requirements under Mines Act Permit MX-100000488. Since the operational teams are already under contract and an established mining contractor is firmly on board, nothing stands in the way of a smooth start to operations.

High-Grade Potential and Blue Lagoon Partnership

Dominion’s geological potential promises high-grade material for the mill. According to CEO Peter Espig, the known vein systems are open in all directions and have historically delivered peak grades of up to 113 grams of gold per ton, which equates to a remarkable 3.31 ounces of gold per ton. Dominion is thus expected to quickly establish itself as a reliable source of premium mill feed. This development is supported by the ongoing cooperation with Blue Lagoon Resources, which is achieving further production milestones under strict grade control and operational discipline and continues to generate reliable toll processing fees for Nicola.

Three key value drivers are currently converging at Nicola Mining: the imminent start of in-house material extraction at Dominion, the high-margin utilization of the Merritt Mill with both in-house and third-party ores, and the ongoing partnership with Blue Lagoon. Whether the concept of fully integrated production will succeed will be decided in the first week of July, when the operational synergy between the company’s own mine and mill must prove itself in practice.
